A Call to Jubilee Time

Charlotte A. Tomaino

“It is Jubilee Time, the trumpet has sounded the time for renewal and re-creation of ourselves.” When you enter the inner world of your own consciousness, the true creative process begins.

The Spirituality of Jubilee is an inner journey guided by reflection and discovery. As you take the time to go inward and reconnect with yourself, the insights and opportunities for choice and transformative action always emerge. In whatever way this call summons you or touches you, the intention is to open your heart and intrigue your brain for movement forward.

The past can become a burden when it remains unresolved. The goal now is to relieve our burdens. Physical, emotional and spiritual renewal is revealed in the sparks from the imagination, once again available, to know what you now love and want to live for. With that awareness, you have a choice to follow that which is life-giving on your own unique spiritual path of Jubilee.

The relationship you have with thought, with the content of consciousness, will determine your destiny.  (Your thoughts shape your perception and interpretation of your life) Evolutionary Enlightenment by A. Cohen

An awakened brain and an awakened life means living from the inside vision of life desired, regardless of the outside circumstances. When the inner reality is stronger and more real than the outer reality, and you can act from your choice, you are entraining your brain and creating your life.  (This is what Molly Rogers knew how to do, even in the Great Depression) Awakening The Brain: The Neuropsychology of Grace by C. Tomaino

Jubilee is a call to you, a sounding of the trumpet, an invitation to enter a new phase of your life. By spending this year together, designating some of your time and focus for a land you have chosen to lie fallow, you can engage in these simple and familiar ways of ‘practicing an attitude of reflection’. Choosing to focus on examination of where you are, harvesting what you have achieved, releasing what is no longer life-giving, and creating a new vision to live from awaits you. Entering your fallow land and crossing the threshold of your own past consciousness means opening yourself to observing, healing and choosing the life-giving possibilities to live from in the future. (Yes, there is always a future at any age, if we create it.)

Historically, entering the year of the Sabbath of all Sabbaths is a time to observe your past and present, reflect on your choices, create your present meaning from your past experience, discern what is finished and what is now calling, release what is over, forgive injustice which is limiting and diminishing you, liberate yourself and others from dysfunction, consider possibility that awaits you, choose what appeals to you, discover what satisfies you, renew yourself with life-giving action and recommit to a New Life in a New Land.

You shall count off seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, so that the period of seven weeks of years give forty-nine years. Then you shall have the trumpet sounded loud: on the tenth day of the seventh month – the day of atonement- you shall have the trumpet sounded throughout all your land.

And you shall hallow the fiftieth year, and you shall proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants; it shall be a jubilee for you; you shall return, every one of you, to your property and every one of you to your family.

That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee for you; you shall not sow, or reap the aftergrowth, or harvest the unpruned vines. For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy to you. (Lev.25:8-12)

So, what will the Spirituality of Jubilee be for you? The following are questions to reflect on. Listen to the answers in your heart of hearts. Follow the call you alone are hearing.

Reflection Topics and Questions

How can you let the landscape of your life lie fallow, at times, to let your spirit regenerate like the tulip bulbs nourished by their fading leaves and the warm, moist spring earth after blossoming, so they can be strengthened to blossom once again?

  • What will be your most meaningful practices to enter this inner journey?
  • Where is a place you can go that brings you peace and ease so you can resonate with the Sacred?
  • When is a time that you are undisturbed to reflect on your life and see clearly?
  • How can you connect with nature that centers and restores you?
  • How have you best reached an inner stillness where you can listen to your inner wisdom?

How will you hallow the landscape of your life in this exploration?

  • Are there opportunities in your daily routines that offer the best conditions for an awareness of the Sacred?
  • Do the sunrise, sunset, wind in the trees, or bird’s songs connect you with Sacred Space?
  • Is there sacred music that calls you inward?
  • Are there clothes, art, meaningful objects, fragrances or rituals that return your awareness to the inner world of a space for hallowed reflection?

Are you ready to move into a new consciousness of the Spirit in your day-to-day activities?

  • What spontaneous spiritual practices have been natural and meaningful to you in the past and still call you?
  • Are there simple prayers, mantras or focus on your breath that return your awareness to the Spirit / Life Force within and around you?
  • What have you focused on during your day that has lifted your spirit and broadened your view?
  • What keeps your awareness planted in your heart and soul?

Over the course of this year, let us join together as each of us move into a new consciousness of the unique spiritual landscape we have to explore and embrace / enter a state of grace / find our own contemplative center and discover deeper meaning in how we each want to live.

We each must select our own practices to enter into this opportunity that will bring a new consciousness to our lives. We were trained in our ‘spiritual formation’ to practice an awareness of the presence of God in silence, focusing on our inner world through out the day. Now we know that entering into such practices actually rewires your brain, changes your perceptions and emotions and creates a new, enhanced consciousness to live from.

Let us move forward together to embrace the Spirituality of Jubilee by letting our inner landscape lie fallow to consciously and deliberately hallow this land of the last 50 years so new growth will be possible. Let us embrace the ability to forgive, liberate and complete with dignity what is over and celebrate our journeys forward once again.

Suggestions: These reflections are offered in the Spirituality of Jubilee: a means to explore your inner spiritual world through reflection, centering, stillness, listening, dreams, images, words, art, and ritual to capture the threads of who you are now and what remains for your fulfillment in the future. We are here to fulfill what we came for by following the call.

After attending your wonderful talk re Awakening the Brain at the college of St. Eliz. several years ago, I saw info re your program The Neuropsychology of Grace to be presented in So. N.J. I couldn’t attend at that time & because I believed it would be as great as was the St. Eliz. Day, I gave this info to the pastor of my Church, hoping that he would support my idea of asking you to do this presentation at our church. Many months later, after not hearing from him I again talked of the paper I gave him and was told it was given to the Parish Council, from whom I also heard nothing?????? I could ask the Parish Council personnel (none of whom I personally know since I’m a relatively new parishoner) if they discussed this. My RC church, St. Helen in Westfield, N.J. is, in my discerning opinion, the best RC church I’ve been a parishoner of in my very long life and history of regular attendance at more than 10.

Continuing my comment, & d/t ltd. space….. I didn’t firstly say that I’m grateful to be receiving your mail and know that it is valuable for me & reflects the effects of the grace currently being bestowed on me.

      Hi Liz,

The event at Christ the King parish in Haddonfield was just delightful for me. The pastor and staff offered outstanding hospitality and extended a warm and gracious welcome to me and to all that attended (from the parish and outside). I really enjoyed it and met beautiful people there. Being from Ct I know little of NJ but would be happy to connect with you to see what is possible.

This is such a great time to engage with this global energy sweeping around the world. Maybe you want to talk to Carol Pisani at Christ the King, she is skilled in these things and was at the College of St Elizabeth. Or contact me directly. Charlottetomainophd@awakeningthebrain.com

  5. I realized that if I went backward in my life 50 years, I would have been 15-6: a time of growth and transition. What, since then, is the old growth I need to prune? Is there old growth from before that I never noticed? What, in this year of Jubilee, do I need to leave fallow so that new growth can germinate? We are on the verge of Imbolc, in the Celtic calendar the beginning of spring. Feb 1 is also sacred to Brigid of Kildare, known among other things for keeping the flame in her sanctuary burning. Imagine the sun/flame entering deep into the earth to spark new life, though there would be no immediate evidence of the life below the surface. The St Brigid cross is woven with reeds; I forget why. February 2 is the Feast Day of the co-founder of the Daughters of Wisdom, St Louis de Montfort. The Wisdom tradition is something I need to cultivate, and leave the remains of the harvest for all who have need. Writing has become my work: an article will be published next month. I blog, reflect. Lent is coming. There is much that is possible if I clear the field for spring. There is also much to let go, making way for the new, or at least making more space for the old, that which is worth keeping. For me, justice and mercy are intertwined. Where do I need mercy? Where do I need to extend justice and mercy? Where does the world need justice and mercy?

Charlotte, this is just so beautiful and timely. Thank you for this heart opening piece of just the right thing at just the right time.

There is ALWAYS so much to let go. Is it always this way????

    • Charlotte Tomaino says:

ALWAYS!!! Isn’t that wonderful? A never ending opening to more love and more creation out of love, if we decide to pay attention to that instead of the opposite.

Lets go forward together doing that, I can’t think of a better way to spend my life!

  7. Paula Grimaldi says:

Thank you for this; it’s very timely for me as letting my inner life lie fallow has been so important in outer and inner healing. As my physical health gets stronger, I find my inner, emotional and spiritual self in flux. Lying fallow, opening into silence and spaciousness is what has been helpful in starting the discernment, the reflection on the past and present to open fully into the now. The present moment of opportunity for clarity and grace. Thank you

  8. Charlotte Tomaino says:

    Thank you Paula,

We are all in this together and move each other forward. You have done that for me and so many others. Let us go forward this year of mercy together with love and share the riches we find.

Thanks for the posting. My partner and i have generally seen that the majority of people are wanting to lose weight when they wish to show up slim plus attractive. However, they do not often realize that there are more benefits for you to losing weight additionally. Doctors declare that overweight people come across a variety of conditions that can be directly attributed to their particular excess weight. The great thing is that people that are overweight and suffering from diverse diseases are able to reduce the severity of the illnesses by means of losing weight. You possibly can see a gradual but identifiable improvement with health as soon as even a minor amount of fat reduction is accomplished.
